Career Roles

1. Content & Copy Writer

Copywriters write for promotions, advertising or marketing. Content Writers entertain and entice audiences so they continuously engage more with the brand or the literary work they are writing for.

At school level, one can pick up English and other Humanities subjects like history, political science, psychology. Writing career can be pursued after taking up commerce and science also at the school level.

Graduation can be pursued in Bachelor of Arts in Advertising & Public Relations/ Bachelor of Arts in English/ Bachelor of Arts in Communication studies followed by Master of Arts in Advertising & Public Relations/ Master of Arts in English/ Master of Arts in Communication studies. Writers can work offline in newspaper, magazine and advertising companies as well as online for websites, e-books and blogs. Apart from a full-time job in media and publishing houses and advertising companies, freelance writing is also a lucrative option.

2. Creative Designer

A Creative Designer works in areas of marketing and advertising to create various visual materials, such as product labels, packaging, website designs or brochures that provide information about a company's offerings and make it attractive to the end-consumer.

At school level, any combination of subjects would work. One could also opt for ‘Fine Arts’ as an elective subject. Since many design colleges have their own entrance exams, one can begin preparation for these in 11th & 12th.

For Graduate studies, one can pursue Bachelor of Science in Multimedia/ Bachelor of Science in Animation and/or Diploma and certifications in Graphic Design followed by Master of Science in Multimedia/ Master of Science in Animation, Diploma and certifications in Graphic Design. Creative designers, sometimes also referred to as graphic artists or communication designers, often work in advertising and promotions, public relations, branding and marketing.

3. Fashion Designer

A Fashion Designer is someone who loves to study fashion trends, sketch designs, select materials and have a part in all the production aspects of their designs. They create new designs in clothing, footwear, costume, jewelry and accessories such as belts, scarves and bags.

For advanced studies, Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Designing or merchandising can be pursued, followed by Master of Arts Fashion Designing or merchandising if desired. Fashion designers are often self-employed or work for fashion labels and houses. They also create costumes and sets for productions. Apart from technical and creative skills, it is also important for an aspiring fashion designer to have an updated design portfolio consisting of all the latest work created by him/her.

4. Interior Designer

Interior Designers make interior spaces functional, safe, and aesthetically beautiful by determining space requirements and making décor choices like colors, lighting, and furniture. They work closely with architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers and builders to design the interiors of homes, offices, schools, buildings etc.

Since many design colleges have their own entrance exams, one can begin preparation for these in 11th & 12th. Applicants may be required to submit sketches and other examples of their artistic ability for admission to interior design programs.

For specialised training, one can pursue Bachelor of Arts in Visual and Design Communication/ Bachelor of Arts in Interior Designing followed by Master of Arts in in Interior Designing/ Master of Arts in Virtual and Design Communication. Please see list of colleges here.

Interior designers are often self-employed and take on projects-specific work like designing a school, office, hospital etc. Some designers are directly employed in the construction industry to work on building of new or renovation of old projects. In a recent trend, interior designers are collaborating with real estate establishments to provide a complete package to customers with housing or office requirements.
