1. Corporate Social Responsibility Consultant

A Corporate Social Responsibility Executive oversees the creation and implementation of an organization's social responsibility objectives. They assist the company in developing, managing and implementing their internal social responsibility policies.

Career in CSR can be taken up after any combination of subjects at school level. If desired, students may take up English, Math, Economics, Accountancy and Business Studies. For admission in a bachelor’s degree at a top college, the candidate should have passed in class 10+2 or its equivalent exam from a recognised Board with minimum 45% marks and English as a compulsory subject.

After class 10+2, student can pursue Bachelor of Business Administration/ Bachelor of Business Management and then Master of Business Administration/ Master of Business Management. Most big and mid-size companies such as KPMG, EY etc. have a dedicated CSR department that looks after strategy, implementation and publicity of its CSR initiatives. With formal budget allocation and awareness of CSR, this has become an integral part of companies’ brand identity.

2. Counsellor

Counsellors help individuals in an educational institution develop skills for success, both in academics and social development.

At school level, one may pick up Humanities with subjects like Sociology, Maths, Economics, English etc. and basic introduction to Psychology. The criteria for marks may vary from college to college, however, to secure a seat in a top college the student must score at least 80% marks in class 10+2 or its equivalent exam from a recognised Board.

Counsellors mostly work in schools where they are responsible for sharing knowledge and information with children so that can take informed decisions. Some counsellors set up their private practice and cater to all age-groups for a wide range of psycho-social problems.

3. Educator

An Educator is a specialist in the theory and practice of a field of education. He/she can also be an administrator of an educational institution.

At school level, a student can pick up English, Humanities and other subjects. However, a student from any stream can pursue teaching in graduation or post-graduation. For admission in Teaching, the candidate should have passed in class 10+2 or its equivalent exam from recognised Board in any stream. Students should score more than 50% marks to get admission in a top college.

To become a school educator, degree of Bachelor of Education is recommended followed by a Master of Education for further specialisation. There are other qualifications such as NET or having a PhD which can qualify a candidate to teach.

Educators can work with institutions like schools, colleges, education boards and other companies that provide assistance on curriculum development and teacher training. Depending on interest, educators can also choose areas of specialisation such as early childhood, subject matter experts and special education.

4. Social Worker

Social Workers are responsible for helping individuals, families and groups of people to cope with problems they are facing. They promote social change and empowerment of people with a focus on development, social cohesion, and freedom from abuse and oppression.

At school level, one can pick up any combination of subjects in the higher grades. For admission in a bachelor’s degree, the candidate should have passed in class 10+2 or its equivalent exam from a recognised Board.

For further studies, a student may pursue Bachelor of Social Work/ Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/ Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and subsequently Master of Social Work / Master of Arts in Psychology/ Bachelor of Arts in Sociology if desired. Social workers may work with non-profit and non-governmental organisations and also be associated with professional associations such as Council on Social Work Education and International Association of Schools of Social Work. The scope of work includes services such as case identification, management counseling and psychotherapy, assessment and diagnosis of interpersonal and social problems, child protection/welfare, policy and practice development and socio-political research.
