Software & Digital Design

The Software & Digital Design Career Family involves the use of technology to create and develop computer systems, programs and data. It also looks at developing the aesthetic appeal of the product that they make. Careers here involve software development and creating graphics and designs for web, television, print and portable electronic devices.

Career Strengths

Developmental
It refers to an orientation to look at the big picture and come up with unique ways of doing things. This requires one to do considerable research, thinking and modelling.
Design
It refers to the orientation to create and express ideas creatively. It requires one to focus on every detail of the product including its aesthetic appeal.

At school level, students should ideally choose Science, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics. The students are required to have cleared their 10+2 with at least 80 to 85% to secure a seat in a top college. If the school offers any additional computer courses, it would be highly beneficial to students.

The best suited course is Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science/ Master of Technology in Computer Science. Click here for the top colleges.

Computer Network Architects create models to predict future network needs by analysing current data traffic and estimating how growth will affect the network. They also keep up to date on new hardware and software technology and test how it can improve network performance. In addition, computer network architects have to keep security in mind and when network vulnerabilities arise, implement security patches or other countermeasures.

2. Data Scientist

Data Scientists are those that make value out of data. Such a person proactively fetches information from various sources and analyzes it for better understanding about how the business performs, and builds AI tools that automate certain processes within the company.

Data Scientists take a business problem and translate it to a data question, create predictive models to answer the question and translate the findings. Knowledge of algorithms, statistics, mathematics, and broad knowledge of programming languages such as R and Python would be necessary for a data scientist. They would also require knowledge of how to structure a data problem, from framing the right questions to ask, to communicating the results effectively.

3. Game Designer/ Animator

Game Designers and Animators apply design and aesthetics to create a game to facilitate interaction between players for entertainment or for medical, educational or experimental purposes.
